The Role
As the EL2 Senior Specialist Engineer, Vehicle and Mechanical Systems, in the Directorate of Specialist Engineering, you will lead a small team of highly specialised engineers and technical staff who are focused on the assessment and enhancement of Land materiel, to assure the safety and performance of vehicle systems used by the ADF.
You will apply your significant engineering expertise to assess very complex engineering problems in the field of vehicle and mechanical systems. This could include coordination of physical testing and evaluation, and undertaking modelling and analytical assessment of vehicle system performance. Your work may require applying specialist skills and experience such as vehicle dynamics and off-road mobility, vibration analysis, finite element modelling, crashworthiness and structural integrity, and equipment transportability.
You will be responsible for guiding, mentoring and developing your team members, and as the Vehicle and Mechanical Systems Community of Practice Lead, you will be expected to drive capability growth and ongoing professional development of Land Systems Division members in this field of practice.

The Land Engineering Agency (LEA) within LSD, supports various projects and Systems Program Offices (SPO) to ensure successful technical outcomes of Defence acquisition and in-service support of land materiel. LEA provides services in engineering, testing, design and development, technical data and configuration management across the Defence capability life-cycle.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineering professional, with extensive knowledge of engineering methodology, systems and procedures, particularly relating to mechanical aspects of very complex military vehicle platforms.
You will lead independently, and with your growth mindset and depth of experience, you manage resources and capacity effectively, while mentoring and inspiring team members to nurture talent and grow the technical and engineering capability of your team.
You will provide robust strategic and specialist advice, clearly, concisely and articulately, to a wide range of senior leaders and stakeholders. Your demonstrated ability to critically analyse very complex problems and develop workable solutions, together with sound judgement and decision-making, will enable you to adapt quickly to stakeholder requirements and influence where required.
