The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) is offering multiple exciting opportunities to join the Directorate of Initial Airworthiness (DIA) within the oversight and regulatory teams. Being an ASAO within DIA involves:

  • Conducting assurance and oversight activities of organisations in the continued airworthiness and aircraft design and production domains.
  • Assessing applications for various DASA issued authorisations (approvals).
  • Analysing and supporting development of aviation safety regulations and policy and promotional material.
  • Deliver training and education to the Defence community.
  • Assessing unsafe conditions in Defence Aircraft types and issuing Airworthiness Directives.
  • Engage with the Military Type Certificate Holders, Design and Production Organisations to promote aviation safety objectives.

The DASA vision ‘Capability First, Safety Always’ reflects our mission in supporting Defence aviation capability. Directorate of Initial Airworthiness (DIA) is providing assurance that safety risks are effectively managed.

DIA contributes to this by:

  • Promulgating initial airworthiness policy and regulation,
  • Certifying Defence aviation systems,
  • Approving and Oversighting Military Type Certificate Holder Organisations
  • Approving and Oversighting Military Design and Production Organisations

Our Ideal Candidate
You are a technical professional passionate about aviation safety in the Defence context. Your contribution will have a critical bearing on aviation safety.  Possessing experience in design, production or management of safety critical systems within the aviation industry will be advantageous. As will knowledge pertaining to type certification and initial airworthiness concepts, either civil or military. Knowledge of aviation safety regulations and/or aviation safety management systems (SMS) will be highly regarded.

For these roles, you:

  • Will draw on your broad experience to assess organisational performance, identify, and evaluate safety risks.
  • Are methodical in conducting oversight and promotion activities.
  • Possess critical thinking skills to conduct research and analysis across a range of aviation safety frameworks to inform policy development.
  • Possess professionalism when providing high quality advice to senior engineering managers and key stakeholders.
