The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated aviation professional to work within a team of civilian and military personnel, in the development and communication of Continuing Airworthiness Regulations and guidance material. The position fulfils a critical role in reviewing, consulting and prescribing safety policy for Defence Aviation.
Specific duties of the position include:
- Custodian of Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR), Continuing Airworthiness Regulations, guidance and policy.
- Identify, develop and process changes to DASR, Continuing Airworthiness Regulations, guidance and policy.
- Coordination and management of timely release of related DASR amendments, guidance material and formal responses to Aviation Safety Community queries.
- Development of decision briefs and other documentation necessary to consult and approve changes to Continuing Airworthiness Regulations, guidance and policy.
- Facilitating and supporting related consultation and engagement with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Ensuring consistent style across approved regulation changes.
- Recording regulation change decisions to ongoing knowledge management.
- Compliance with and improvement of the DASA quality management system and other business processes.

The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) is a leading military aviation safety authority contributing to capability focused safe aviation in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The Directorate of Continuing Airworthiness (DCA) contributes to this purpose by providing assurance that ADF aircraft remain in a condition for safe operation throughout its operating life.
This includes:
- Prescribing safety policy & regulation,
- Promoting Defence Aviation safety through education, training & dissemination of safety information.
- Approving Defence Aviation organisations and their key products, as well as some personnel·
- Overseeing continuing airworthiness management, maintenance and maintenance training organisations.

- A detailed understanding of contemporary, outcome based, continuing airworthiness regulations.
- Working experience with maintenance and maintenance management of complex aircraft.
- The ability to understand the relationship between implemented regulation and aviation hazards.
- Leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills to support the team to deliver both ad-hoc and major project deadlines.
- Time management and the ability to work independently including the development of priorities based on team/directorate objectives.
- Communication skills and stakeholder management to negotiate with and influence subject matter experts to deliver agreed outcomes.
- Very good technical writing skills and a keen attention to detail when executing detail-oriented tasks.
- Well-developed administrative, organisational and project management skills.
- Strong computer skills.
