The Role
As the Principal Facilities and Pipeline Engineer you will provide objective, expert advice reports on existing and planned surface facilities and pipelines to support sustainable operations and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and leading industry practice. You will also advise on policy development and implementation and manage a small team in the delivery of timely services and oversee the quality of the work undertaken.
Key Duties
- Provide high-level advice to senior management on petroleum infrastructure service facilities and pipeline developments
- Lead the preparation of high-level documents including assessment reports, ministerial briefs, statements of reasons, compliance directions and prosecution briefs
- Establish, oversee and execute regulatory inspections of petroleum surface infrastructure and pipelines, considering current and emerging research, appropriate industry standards, processes, guidelines and legislation.
- Undertake duties of an appointed inspector under the Petroleum Act 1984, the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act (NT) 1981, the Energy Pipelines Act 1981 and the Geothermal Energy Act 2009.
- Oversee and conduct investigations of incidents and accidents within energy operations and facilities and provide appropriate recommendations.
- Provide strong, supportive leadership to a small team, setting clear expectations, mentoring staff, and managing performance.
- Collaborate with the Petroleum Operations and broader Energy Development teams, contributing innovative ideas and solutions to all aspects of business.
About you
You are a confident technical leader with a strong understanding of the energy sector and a commitment to regulatory excellence. To be successful you will have:
- Tertiary degree in engineering or other field relevant to the energy pipeline and petroleum industries.
- Extensive industry experience in petroleum processing facilities and/or energy pipelines, including technical and field experience in equipment and compliance with industry standards and related regulations.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of reports, briefing and memorandums for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience in interpreting and applying legislation, conducting inspections and incident investigations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a small professional team
- Demonstrated strong organisation skills, flexibility with changing priorities and ability to meet deadlines.
