Mechanical Product Designer
We are looking for a highly capable Mechanical Product Designer to help design and develop innovative agricultural and heavy industrial equipment from the ground up.
This is a hands-on product design role focused on real-world machinery, practical problem-solving and building equipment that performs in tough Australian field and industrial conditions. The right person will be involved from the early idea stage through to 3D design, prototyping, testing, refinement and field-ready production.
This is not a basic drafting role. We are looking for someone who can think through the full product, understand how it will be built, used, serviced and improved, and turn ideas into practical, reliable equipment.
Location:
This role is based in Mandurah, WA. Applicants must either be local to Mandurah or be willing and able to travel to Mandurah for the role.
Strict requirements:
- Must be able to design products from concept through to field-ready equipment.
- Must have a strong all-round understanding of mechanical product design, fabrication, assembly, serviceability and real-world use.
- Must be highly skilled in Autodesk Inventor.
- Must be confident designing full assemblies, parts, mechanisms and fabricated components in Inventor.
- Must understand hydraulics, electrical systems, fabrication methods, mechanical assemblies and how they work together in real equipment.
- Must be able to design for manufacture, assembly, serviceability and long-term reliability.
- Must be able to create accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings, BOMs and design documentation.
- Must have an understanding of FEA, design validation, prototype testing and field testing.
- Must understand how products are built, tested, refined, repaired and improved in the field.
- Must be able to work independently, solve problems and think practically.
- Must be comfortable working on agricultural equipment, heavy industrial machinery, steel fabrication and mechanical systems.
Important:
We use Autodesk Inventor. Applicants must be genuinely skilled in Inventor. This role is not suited to someone who mainly uses other design software and would need to transition across.
Cover letter required:
Please include a cover letter with your application explaining:
- Why you believe you are a good fit for this position.
- Why working from Mandurah, WA suits you.
- Your specific skill level and experience using Autodesk Inventor.
- Examples of products, machinery, equipment or assemblies you have designed from concept through to completion.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys machinery design, agricultural innovation, heavy industrial equipment and seeing their ideas turn into real products working in the field.
