The Role
An opportunity exists for an APS6 Engineer Professional to join a dynamic and vibrant Defence project team, working in the Explosive Materiel Branch (EMB) in the Department of Defence. Located in Stirling, WA, you will be working on some of the most exciting and complex guided weapons and explosive ordnance products used by the Australian Defence Force. The key objective for our engineers is to develop in depth technical knowledge in maritime weapon technologies.

We are seeking applications to fill a vacancy located at Stirling, WA.

You will spend your days:

  • Effectively performing critical and complex engineering activities whilst working within an Integrated Product Team (IPT).
  • Ensuring you have an extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
  • Providing detailed explosive ordnance engineering technical and professional advice in relation to complex work.
  • Contributing to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

This position will be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. Dual citizens may be subject to further assessment and appointment to this position will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material in accordance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

MEOSPO is an integral part of Explosive Materiel Branch (EMB), which is part of the new Guided Weapons & Explosive Ordnance Delivery Division (GWEODD). Our team is made up of various disciplines (including engineering, project management, commercial, logistics, and corporate enabling services). We are located in Canberra, Penrith, Amberley, Melbourne and Stirling, and our focus is to acquire and sustain guided weapons and munitions for the Australian Defence Force.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our Ideal candidate will possess the following skills and capabilities:

  • Be accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and experience to identify issues and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making and priority setting.
  • Demonstrate explosive ordnance engineering knowledge and provide advice and recommendations on the development of, and advancements to establish engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations.
  • Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
  • Evaluate that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
  • Identify, assess and monitor risks to ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into explosive ordnance engineering activities.
  • Develop engineering artefacts required to progress introduction and sustainment of maritime weapon systems.
