The Role
We are looking for a qualified Engineer who possess extensive knowledge of nuclear safety and radiation protection principles and experience of working in high-hazard regulated environments. You will need to demonstrate the ability to incorporate scientific, engineering and behavioural reasoning into nuclear safety and radiation protection regulation and licensing.

You will join the Regulation and Licensing directorate within the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Regulatory Design (NPSRD). The directorate is responsible for the stand-up of the regulation and licensing function for nuclear-powered submarines, nuclear material and the associated nuclear facilities.

As the EL2 Director - Engineer Professional - Nuclear Specialist you will exercise a significant degree of independence and will provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming accountability for very complex nuclear engineering and science work. As an EL2 Director Engineer Professional - Nuclear Specialist, you will;

  • Exercise your people management skills and knowledge to lead a high performing and cohesive team.
  • Require knowledge of nuclear-power safety and radiological protection principles.
  • Require extensive knowledge of regulatory frameworks, government decision-making and policy requirements to assist with nuclear regulation and licensing.
  • Provide a strategic level of expert advice on the assessment and provision of licences for facilities as well as the regulatory audit, inspection, compliance and assurance of facility licence holders related to nuclear powered submarines that fall under the regulatory framework of the future Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR).
  • Actively managing key stakeholder relationships and identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
  • Develop, coach and review individual, team and business performance, and identify opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.
  • Be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

Note: Due to the training and development requirements for these roles, international travel will likely be required. We are seeking individuals who are willing and able to work abroad in the United Kingdom (UK) or the United Stated of America (USA) for periods of time which may span anywhere from 3 to 24 months. International travel to other locations may also be required for additional training opportunities (e.g. short courses).
