The Role 
We have an opportunity for a technical specialist with knowledge of safety principles and ideally experience in working in high-hazard regulated environments.

You will join the Regulations and Licensing directorate within the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Regulatory Design (NPSRD). The directorate is responsible for the stand-up of the regulation and licensing function for nuclear-powered submarines, nuclear material and the associated nuclear facilities.

As an APS 5 Nuclear Regulatory Technical Officer you will be accountable under limited direction to assist in the assessment of nuclear engineering and science work, and exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. As the APS 5 Nuclear Regulatory Technical Officer, you will;

  • Have or be capable of obtaining knowledge of nuclear safety and radiological protection principles.
  • Have or be capable of obtaining knowledge of regulatory frameworks, government decision-making and policy requirements to assist with nuclear regulation and licensing.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and provide advice and recommendations on the assessment and provision of licences for facilities as well as the regulatory audit, inspection, compliance and assurance of facility licence holders related to nuclear powered submarines that fall under the regulatory framework of the future Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR).
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
