The Role

As the Chief Engineer Technical Lethality in the Maritime Warfare Centre, you will be Navy’s Subject Matter Expert on platform lethality in the Australian Fleet.

You will lead a diverse and multi-disciplinary team to determine this lethality, and to assure that it remains appropriate and effective for Navy’s objectives. At times, you will represent the organisation nationally or internationally in matters relating to weapon systems. You will support the building of an enduring sovereign capability critical to the Commonwealth’s objective to enhance the self-reliance of the Australian Defence Force. You will exercise a significant degree of independence in undertaking your duties, but at the same time, you will provide leadership, insight and vision to your team.

You will use your sound engineering/scientific skills to determine novel ways to solve complex problems with modern analytic techniques, supported by Defence’s commitment to employ contemporary technologies to empower data-informed decision-making.

You will use your project management skills to develop detailed plans and schedules while also coordinating teams, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders, resolving issues, ensuring quality, and negotiating changes as they arise.

About our Team

The Maritime Warfare Centre’s mission is be the Australian Defence Force’s centre of excellence for integrated maritime warfighting. It achieves this by providing warfare support services to Navy in order to increase effectiveness & lethality of our Fleet. The team you will be leading directly support this mission through measurement, modelling and analysis of ship systems, warfare tactics and Test & Evaluation. Come join a team, which works collaboratively with Engineers from different disciplines, industry and Government, civilian and military, to understand, shape and improve warfighting capabilities across Navy.

Candidates will have strong interest (or experience) in any of the following:

  • Understanding of weapon, sensors and combat systems
  • Modelling and simulation
  • Weapon firing ranges and telemetry
